Kathmandu to Pokhara 200km that nearly every foreign tourist in Nepal will travel. The question is: Micro, tourist bus or plane? Most people take the tourist bus but is it the best option for you? We looked at safety, reliability, cost, comfort and speed to give you our guide on getting to and from Pokhara.
However this time public bus also has same quality as tourist bus. Public bus also has facility wi-fi and Air condition(AC)

THE MICRO.
A micro bus is a large van or a small bus, depend which way you look at it. The micro has a reputation for being terribly uncomfortable and incredibly unsafe. The reputation is deserved. They are cramped, over packed and often crash.

Catching a micro is really easy. Turn up at the bus stop at Kalanki bus stop. Micros leave throughout the day through they drop off in frequency after about 2PM. There will be a number of micros parked in the street. The callasi (bus boy) will be shouting their destinations and trying to usher people on to their micro. The quickest way is to just announce where you are going and they will direct you to the right bus.

Typically a micro seat around 20 but people are jammed in way over capacity. Most are decked out with wooden boxes which slide neatly into the corridor to create an extra seat. If you arrive and the only seat available is one of these wooden boxes either wait for the next micro (five hours on a wooden box is worse than you imagine) or bargain hard. Micro callasi’s have a really hard time filling these wooden seats and it is possible to get a pretty cheap ticket.
A regular ticket can cost anywhere from Rs.500-700NPR. The rule is bargain before you get on the micro. Once you are sitting in the seat you have to pay the price they ask. Negotiate before you sit. The best seats are in the front or next to a window which opens. Ask for a good seat or you will end up in the middle.

Micros are more dangerous than the Tourist bus because they drive faster. A trip on the micro generally takes five hours if there is no traffic jam. Window seats are coveted because the road is very bendy and a lot of people vomit. During my first micro trip a girl was trying to vomit out the window and the spray ended up all over my face. Be warned the micro is fast and pretty cheap but it is very uncomfortable.

The micro will stop at one very dirty restaurant. Do not eat the food. Take a snack with you.

THE TOURIST BUS

Tourist buses leave at 7am from Kantipath. If you want to get the tourist bus you can book through a number of travel agencies or just turn up on Kantipath and take your pick from the numerous buses lined up in the street. Prices are usually 350-400NR, unless you are going on the Greenline which is pretty expensive.

SLOW. SLOW. SLOW. The tourist bus is rumored to be safer, the drivers are relatively sedate compared to the micro. Tourist buses frequently get caught in traffic jams or behind slow moving trucks. If you do the trip regularly you may find the speed (or lack of) a little frustrating. The trip takes about 7 hours and it can often stretch to 10.
There is a bit more space on the tourist bus as people are not crammed into the aisle. Most buses are fitted with reclining seats so it is possible to get relatively comfortable.

The tourist bus also stops twice at over priced restaurants. Again we wouldn’t recommend tourists eat at these stops. It is best if you bring a snack with you and take sterilizer and toilet paper if you are going to need the bathroom.
The tourist bus is the cheapest and probably the safest option but also the slowest.
